Chimney Caps FAQs

  • Can you tell me more about Chimney King?

With over 25 years of experience, Chimney King can offer you more than just a custom UL Listed & Labeled chimney cap. All of our chimney caps are built to last with high-quality materials, a 10-year warranty and peace of mind. There are plenty of imitators around that will offer to make a similar design for less... if you want a chimney cap that is made with a cheaper material, with little or no warranty, and most likely... not tested for safety.

Fireplace companies spend huge amounts of money on testing to ensure that each piece of the fireplace system - from the firebox itself to the termination cap above your chimney chase - all work together efficiently and safely. This testing is a long and costly process, but is essential to ensure the safety of the public. At Chimney King, we work hard to make sure our products undergo this testing in order to provide the best - and safest - chimney cap available on the market today.

Because our chimney caps are UL Listed & Labeled, you have met the requirements for the 2000 International Codes – Mechanical - Residential - Fire - Fuel & Gas, as well as NFPA 211 and NFPA 54 for chimney shroud use. This keeps the UL Listing and factory warranty on your factory built (pre-fab) fireplace intact as well as your homes insurance policy!

  • I've heard of Chimney Caps, but what are shrouds and crowns?

The usage of these terms is interchangeable. Generally builders refer to them as shrouds, but they all mean the same thing: a decorative and functional top to a chimney.

  • What information do I need to have when I call?

This part can be tough, but the more you know the more Chimney King is able to assist you.

    1. Fireplace manufacturer, fireplace name and model number, pipe model number, and termination cap model and number.
    2. Chase top dimensions, height of pipe/s, number of pipes, type of pipe/s, and the ID of the pipe/s. (the chase pan layout)
    3. Order Form completed as best as you can.

With that information, we can get down to the details on your personalized custom chimney cap. We love to receive emails with pictures of your home and chimney, elevation sketches, blueprints, and CAD drawings.

  • What are Chimney Crowns made of?

All of our chimney caps are made from at least 24 GA steel. We offer mill-finished aluminized steel, 92 colors of painted steel, stainless steel, 16oz & 20oz copper, lead-coated copper, patina'd (green) copper, and 'perfect' non-tarnishing copper. For those of you who prefer the look of stucco, we offer a "ready for stucco" option as well as our custom elastomeric stucco-paint finish (available in various colors).

  • How soon can I have one shipped, delivered or picked-up?

Orders of less than five (5) chimney shrouds usually leave our shop within five to ten (5 - 10) business days. Ship times to your location vary but are generally less than four (4) days within the continental United States.

  • What options do I have to have my Chimney Cap shipped to me?

    1. We can send the chimney caps to you fully assembled via a selected freight carrier.
    2. We can leave them in pre-assembly form (disassembled) and shipped via UPS (Important! Not all chimney caps will be small enough to ship this way).
  • What kind of warranty do you offer?

    1. Chimney King Chimney Crowns (Shrouds) are custom, "One of a kind Products". We make over 70 variations in caps, in over 50 finishes and all are made to custom sizes. As such, Chimney King has a No Return and No Restocking program with our dealers and end users. However, Chimney King guarantees to the original purchaser or subsequent owner that our Chimney Crowns will meet original contract specs, and be free of defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service, per the conditions as defined below, for a period of Ten Years.

    2. During the applicable warranty period - Ten Years - Chimney King shall repair or replace at no cost any product found to have been defective. Chimney King does not assume liability for the shipping cost to end user, or any other costs besides supplying a free replacement product. All shipping cost must be borne by the end user.

    3. If a product is found to be defective and Chimney King repairs or replaces the product with a new or reconditioned product identical to the original specs, Chimney King does not assume any responsibility for the labor necessary to remove and replace said replacement Chimney Crown.

    4. Chimney King assumes no responsibility for misc labor, service calls, damage caused by accident, misuse, negligence, abuse or acts of God.

    5. Corrosion damage: Certain geographic areas of the world are prone to excessive corrosion and Chimney Crowns must be ordered to withstand these corrosive effects for the Ten Year Replacement Warranty to be in effect. These include:

    • Ocean / salt air is a corrosive element that requires a stainless steel subframe to be used in order to preserve the ten year guarantee and keep it in effect.
    • Emissions from certain chimney flues - Oil and Coal fired boilers in specific and other types of mechanical boilers, furnaces or discharge sources - can be corrosive to standard mill finish Galvanized and Aluminized Steel as well as primed Galvanized and Aluminized Steel sheet metal. Stainless Steel must be substituted as a sub-frame material in order for our ten year replacement guarantee to stay intact.
    • Certain geographic areas of the US and Canada depend on coal fired power plants which produce excessive acid rain. In these areas a stainless steel subframe is also necessary to preserve our warranty as stated above.
    • Should an unforeseen corrosion problem not stated above arise, please contact customer service and we will work to satisfy you on a per case basis.

    6. Shipping damage: Shipping damage is outside the control of Chimney King and is a fact of life. Over 14 years, Chimney King has averaged less than 2% damage from freight transportation, but it does happen. In the unfortunate event your product is damaged in transit, Chimney King will expedite a replacement of your product at no cost as Chimney King realizes time is of the essence in replacement matters. We regret this inevitability, so to mitigate our customer's dismay and discomfort, it is our policy to begin reconstruction of damaged shipments immediately upon notification of damage and possibly upon return of damaged goods, and speed replacement Crowns to our customers. It is Chimney Kings policy to replace damaged shipments with new Chimney Crowns or parts, as necessary, as quickly as possible.

    7. Chimney King wishes to maintain good customer relations with all of our customers, and may waive any or all of the above restrictions for replacement Chimney Crowns at its sole discretion.

    8. There is no express representation, warranty, or conditions relating to Chimney King Products other than this limited "8 point" Ten Year Warranty as stated above.
