As you may be aware, the Int. Mechanical and Residential and Fuel / Gas Code books all require chimney shrouds used with factory built chimney to be UL listed and labeled for use with the underlying chimney system. The Int. Fire Code now calls for the removal of every chimney shroud in the United States that is not listed and labeled for use with the factory built chimney system it surrounds. The number of caps affected by the Int. Fire Code is in the millions! They all need to be removed and the chimney inspected.
